Private Investigator BALA Dies of Heart Attack...

PETALING JAYA: Former private investigator P. Balasubramaniam (pix)died while receiving treatment at a clinic in Rawang Friday.

Bala is 53 years old, better known as P.I. Bala, complained of breathing difficulties around 1.30pm before being rushed to the clinic by family members.

Subang MP R. Sivarasah, who is assisting the family, said doctors at the clinic alerted Sungai Buloh Hospital, but Bala died while waiting for the ambulance."We believe he died of a heart attack.

"However, a post-mortem will be conducted on Bala's body," he said when met at the hospital.He added the body was brought to the hospital around 5.30pm by family members.

Sivarasah, who is PKR vice-president, said Bala's complications started on March 1, when he complained of chest pains. "He went for a medical examination at the Sime Darby Medical Centre a week ago. "Doctors discovered he had three blockages in three major heart vessels," he said. He added that after receiving treatment, Bala was discharged on Tuesday."He was supposed to go for a bypass in three weeks but it was not to be," he said.

Sivarasah said the post-mortem was expected to be concluded by night.

"The family will be claiming the body on Saturday morning. "The funeral is also expected to be held on Saturday. He will be cremated either in Ijok or Cheras," he said.Bala's wife Santamil Selvi, 46, and his son Kishen, 16, were at the hospital but too distraught to talk to journalists gathered. His son Rishi, 11, and daughter Meenaga, 15, were at home.

The former special branch officer became the centre of controversy in the 2008 murder case of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu for making two contradictory statutory declarations relating to it.

He subsequently fled the country but returned to Malaysia from India last month, pledging his support for the Opposition.
